The gentlest of the main routes up Yr Wyddfa begins directly opposite the hostel. No car, no shuttle, no early scramble for a parking space — just walk out and start climbing.
Beside Llyn Cwellyn
The lake is a two-minute walk away, with a shingle shore, open water and mountains on every side. Swimmers, paddlers and anglers all end up down there before breakfast.

A bed in a shared room
The affordable way to stay in the heart of Eryri. You book a single bunk in a shared room, with fresh linen made up and lockable storage for your gear. Ideal for solo walkers and anyone happy to swap trail notes over breakfast.
The whole room, privately
Every room can also be booked as a private room for your group alone, from a two-bed twin up to the eight-bed loft. Same building, same facilities, with a door you close behind you.

ABOUT THE HOSTEL
A Victorian house, freshly reopened
The Snowdon Ranger has been putting up walkers for well over a century. In 2026 it passed to a local family, who have spent the summer refreshing the rooms, the lounge and the guest kitchen ready for an independent reopening on 27 August.
Inside you will find a communal lounge and deep leather sofas, a dining room, and a self-catering kitchen with everything you need to cook a proper meal. Reception keeps a small stock of Welsh snacks, local produce and hot and cold drinks for the walk out and the evening back.
Fresh bed linen is made up for every guest. We ask that you bring your own towel.
